Abstract :
This paper presents a compact multiband planar monopole microstrip antenna for modern mobile phone applications. The proposed antenna covers the following wireless communication bands: GSM(824-894 MHz), PCS(1850-1990 MHz), WLAN(2.4-2.484 GHz), WiMAX(2.5-2.69 GHz and 5.1-5.8 GHz). A new technique of using a combination of slots and slits in the radiating patch and the ground plane has been employed to achieve the multiband performance of the antenna. The proposed antenna exhibits good radiation performance in terms of gain, return loss, and compactness. The proposed antenna is suitable for many wireless handheld devices. A good agreement between the simulated and the experimental results is achieved.
