Abstract :
Improving the lifetime performance of large-scale sensor networks has been one of the key challenges. In this paper, we propose a strategy of energy efficient protocol in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) based on nonuniform- ring-zone model (abbreviated SEEPNM). SEEPNM is proposed for WSNs deployed for detecting rare events, which require prompt detection and response. The nonuniform-ring-zone model will be able to even the energy consumption of the nodes, and even the lifetime of the nodes in different tiers, thus it can prolong the lifetime of the whole network. We evaluate SEEPNM through number simulation, and compare it with S-MAC running in the uniform-ring-zone model. The number simulation results show that SEEPNM outperform S-MAC for event-detecting applications, while satisfying identical end-to-end latency constraints.
