Abstract :
In this paper, a new methodology based on optimal location, number and size of the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is proposed to enhance voltage security and relieve the transmission power lines congestion. Using the proposed method, the location of UPFC, its rated values and required number are optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm simultaneously. The proposed approach has been implemented on the IEEE 39-bus test system and significant results show the effectiveness of it.
