Abstract :
The miniature unit-coupling (MU) fiber optic connector system features compact plugs with a 1.25 mm diameter ferrule. The MU connector system inherits the superior performance and high reliability of the SC connector and also realizes small form factor. It consists of compact plugs, adaptors, backplane connectors and simplified receptacles, and therefore has a wide range of applications. This system has already been standardized by such international standardization organizations as IEC and IEEE. The application area is spreading from transmission and exchange systems to access systems and data communication systems. This extension of its application and the corresponding increase in production has meant a rapid reduction in connector price. New technologies for field assembly and further cost reduction are currently being developed
