Abstract :
A theoretical study on `Planar Inverted F Antenna Technology´ is performed. Several research works done on PIFA are categorized and discussed. All the available theoretical, experimental and numerical method based analysis techniques are reviewed. Presence of PIFA in the category of low profile antenna in various application areas is reported. Effect of finite ground plane in wireless antenna applications is revisited. Performance of PIFA with other low profile antennas are compared and summarized. Suitability of PIFA as an array element is discussed and various methods of reducing mutual coupling are investigated. Finally critical needs for research areas are pointed out.
