Abstract
We discuss aspects of computation and implementation in soft computing when applying arithmetic of interval analysis to fuzzy quantities. Evoking Kolmogorov´s solution (1957) to Hilbert´s thirteenth problem (on numerical computations, and whether functions of several variables can be represented as functions of fewer variables), we show that the situation is different in soft computing. As a result, we provide a rationale for implementing hardware supported functions of more than two variables
