Architectures and functional aspects of radio relay systems for SDH networks

The functionality of SDH radio and possible architectures for employing SDH radio in SDH networks are discussed based on the International Radio Consultative Committee (CCIR) recommendations for synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH), SDH radio equipment is described in terms of functional blocks. The authors review radio relay systems to transport STM-1 frame structures, their functional block diagrams and radio protection switching.
