Summary form only given. A nematic liquid crystal, used as a nonlinear Kerr medium, exhibits spatiotemporal structures when inserted into an optical feedback loop and pumped by a laser. At instability threshold hexagons appear for large aspect ratio. However, outside these peculiar conditions complex dynamics take place.
