Abstract :
Several models are presented for overlapping coverage areas based on hexagonal, square and linear layouts of cells. Mixtures of these arrangements, as well as less regular configurations, are likely to arise as cellular and microcellular systems are deployed in high-density communication traffic areas and along roadways. For each layout, the fraction of total area that is covered by a given number of fixed sites is determined and plotted as a function of transceiver range
