Abstract :
The FePt film prepared by ion beam sputtering with nitrogen gas in addition to the Ar gas transforms into the ordered fct structure at a faster rate as compared to that film prepared only with Ar gas. Mossbauer studies, X-ray reflectivity (XRR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterization shows that at high temperature annealing, the present nitrogen escapes creating voids which play a significant role in the transformation of disordered FePt into the ordered FePt structure.
