Abstract :
A fluid flow approximation model for studying how the admissible multiplex load can be increased by using space priorities is discussed. Two types of traffic, CBR (continuous bit-rate) traffic and VBR (variable bit-rate) traffic, are considered, and a quantized-state continuous-time Markov process is used to model the output of a variable bit-rate video coder and a two-state Markov process alternating between talkspurs and silence periods which could be used to model a coded voice source
