Abstract :
It is now clear that we must consider that there is a meaningful variation in the marine environment and in the available marine resources as between our country´s several natural ocean regions. The environments of these ocean regions impact on, and man´s use of their resources are managed from, the bordering coastal area. As between the several ocean regions the coastal zones also differ, in terms of their social, economic, and political character. It seems that oversight of the management of the coastal zone and the EEZ is best organized on a regional basis with joint Federal and State consultation and coordination of plans and activities.
