Abstract :
In this paper, we estimate the number of propagating modes in rectangular and circular multimode waveguides and express it as a closed-form function of excitation frequency and waveguide cross-sectional dimensions. The presented formulas can be used to quickly estimate the number of modes which can propagate in multimode waveguide communication channels such as pipes, ducts, and tunnels.
