  • Abstract
    The paper presents a novel algorithm for the availability calculation of a ship optical communication network. The impact of the configuration of optical cable paths on the overall network availability is presented. By using availability data from existing networks, a modified expression for availability calculation is developed. It includes impact factors based on the cable network configuration. The applicability of the here proposed method in real-life situations is illustrated on a reference optical network of a ferryboat.
