Abstract :
A description is presented of the hardware implementation and a design example is given of an ultrafast photonic asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) (ULPHA) switch. Experimental results are presented of the generation and the self-routing switching of ultrafast optical cells. For hardware implementation, new cell coder and buffer configurations are proposed, and for the design example, it is shown that this switch can achieve 102 Gb/s throughput. In addition, the generation of 16 bit, 20 Gb/s optical cells and a demonstration of 4 bit, 20 Gb/s cell selection using a wavelength multiplexing technique are presented
