Abstract :
In an effort to decrease connector insertion loss, the eccentricity distribution of the multi-fiber connector MT ferrule was reduced theoretically and then experimentally. Testing with an eight fiber, angle-polished, MTPTM connector showed insertion losses of 0.09 dB on average with a 0.33 dB maximum, and a return loss of better than 60 dB. A connector quality control method for achieving 0.3 dB maximum loss at 99% yield was then proposed
