Abstract :
A performance analysis for an optically preamplified system employing Reed Solomon forward error correction coding is presented. The theoretical results demonstrate that, when operating at a bit rate of 622 Mbits/s, the system offers a potential sensitivity of 7 photons/bit which is comparable with that of the best coherent systems reported to date
