Abstract
A description is presented of the requirements, architecture, and enabling technologies for the development of intelligent and integrated corporate network management systems. A report is presented on progress with applying the described concepts to the integrated management of large data communication networks. The analysis of network management technologies emphasizes the need for marrying object-oriented and knowledge-based technologies with the emerging network management standards. The benefits of adopting these technologies include the development of modular and extensible designs, intelligent applications, and familiar user interfaces
