Abstract :
In this paper, the electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure is applied in a mobile phone to reduce its peak SAR. From simulation result with SEMCAD X, it can be seen that this type of EBG structure is a useful method to suppress peak SAR of mobile phone. With this method, the peak SAR suppression is not caused by total radiated power (TRP) decreasing but from the reduction of the radiation pattern towards the direction of human head. The comparison with other method such as conductor reflector is also presented.
