Abstract
Microwave oscillation induced by polarized spin current via the effect of spin momentum transfer, also known as spin torque, has been observed in current-perpendicular-to-plane spin valve structures. It has been found that in the spin valve stack, a relatively large sensing current can drive magnetization oscillation into chaotic spin waves, resulting in substantial 1/f-like noise below 1 GHz. In this paper, we present a experimental study of the spin torque, induced microwave oscillation in tunneling magnetoresistive (TMR) read heads used in hard disk drive applications.
