Abstract :
An advanced portable application typically consists of an exchangeable battery pack-mostly backward compatible with previously introduced battery-systems which can be quickly be recharged in the application, in the separate desktop charger or under control of the (intelligent) battery-pack itself. In this context the author describes several single chip solutions to the problem of battery charging: the PowerPlug based upon a self oscillating power supply control IC; single-chip desktop chargers; and the single-chip intelligent battery
