Abstract :
In this paper, a 2.4/5-GHz dual-band planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) design is proposed. Compared to existing dual-band PIFAs, the antenna offers the advantage of a simpler and more compact design. The PIFA is designed for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications at 2.4 GHz (2.40-2.48 GHz) and 5 GHz (5.15-5.85 GHz). The size of the antenna is 94×50 mm, which makes it suitable for portable devices. The simulated and measured impedance and radiation performance of the antenna are given. In addition, a detailed parametric study is also performed, which provides useful information for antenna engineers.
