Abstract :
This 16-channel application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) is designed for reading out multi-wire proportional chambers (MWPC´s) or other similar large linear detector arrays. The data consist of a time-stamp and channel address for each hit, shipped out sequentially on a data bus. A prototype circuit, fabricated in the HP 1.2 μm, double metal, one polysilicon process performs at a system clock of 33.3 MHz. The power supply voltage has been kept at 3 V for lower crosstalk. The logic design, layout considerations and performance characteristics are presented
