Abstract
This paper presents a unified approach to designing and selecting data acquisition systems involving multiple sensors, data preprocessing, and real-time presentation of data products. An example of a system to monitor weather parameters, wave statistics and spectrum characteristics in real time is presented. In particular, an analysis is given of the operating software of the Data Presentation and Storage System which is used to collect all the sensor information and to make it available to the users (engineers, researchers, scientists). To achieve modularity and a high degree of customability, a real-time executive, called the S-SYSTEM, and a tokenized interpretive language, called VPL (Vector Processing Language), has been developed. Justifications for the development of the above software modules are explained.
