Abstract :
Negative ion neutral beam injectors (NBIs) ask for higher voltages than positive ion NBIs. Most NBIs are supplied by tetrode regulated power supplies. The demand for higher voltage makes this approach not feasible any more. The paper presents a solution based on pulse step modulator (PSM) technology, rated at 350 kV and an output current of 30 A in continuous operation. Due to the high output voltage, system modifications compared to the existing PSM are necessary. Mainly the required voltage insulation, either for the power supply and the control need new solutions
