Exploiting the Benefits of an Electronic Identity Card in an Interactive Television Environment

In this paper we apply the Belgian electronic identity card (elD) as a means for authentication and digital signing in an interactive digital television (iDTV) environment. Two different frameworks are shown to interface the elD with the multimedia home platform (MHP), which is an open standard for interactive television. The open card framework (OCF) is used in this study, as one of these platforms, for the implementation of a t-mail application scenario. Some application challenges are discussed briefly.
