Abstract :
One application of a spin transistor is for use in a read head for disk drive applications. Although the use of this type of sensor as a read head is not a new idea, the practical implementation for this three terminal device have not been thoroughly explored. This paper discusses a model that helps predict or define several key technical requirements, such as device parametrics and processing challenges. Possible solutions that may enable a path to incorporating a transistor with adequate signal/noise ratio (SNR) in a future read head working at room temperature are also discussed.
