Abstract :
The familiar Sommerfeld integral can be expanded in an asymptotic series whose first term is related to the complementary error function. The remaining terms can be calculated efficiently through a recurrence relation. A bound for the error term of the asymptotic series is also established which shows that the present method is superior to the standard steepest descent method.
