Abstract :
How cepstral methods may be extended to accommodate a system in which the propagating waves are dispersive is described. This is done by incorporating the dispersion law into the procedure. This results in a cepstrum in which the independent variable is space such that at a point determined by the distances between the measurement and reflectors, functions related to the reflection coefficients appear. Theoretical, simulation, and experimental results are presented. The physical applications include both structural and acoustic wave propagation in a slender beam and a duct, respectively
