Abstract
A full-frame-transfer high-resolution camera has been developed at Cohu Inc. This camera is based on a 2/3-inch 1134×486 CCD manufactured by Texas Instruments. The sensor has two independently addressable field memories which permit it to operate in several modes, including an RS-170 full-frame-transfer mode. In addition, the frame-transfer technology provides the benefits of a high-sensitivity imager with contiguous pixels. A high-bandwidth video-processing circuit makes full use of the resolution of the sensor while allowing options such as Automatic Gain Control and Auto Black Control. A programmable timing generator drives the sensor in its various modes. The following issues are discussed: sensor characteristics, functional description of the camera and its modes of operation
