Abstract :
A 12-element circular retrodirective array is proposed for a full 360deg scanning range. Each radiating element is a modified end-fire quasi-Yagi antenna with a low profile, 21% impedance bandwidth and 4.5 dBi peak gain at a center frequency of 5.8 GHz. Resistive field effect transistor (FET) mixers are employed to provide the required phase conjugation. The mixers offer a low 4.8 dB conversion loss at 3.5 dBm LO power via the use of a non-linear optimization technique of multi-harmonic loads. The whole retrodirective array was implemented on a single circular printed circuit board with a central LO feed, providing a low-cost solution. The full-range coverage was experimentally confirmed by measuring both the bi- and mono-static radiation patterns.
