Abstract :
Nowadays, with the increased number of vehicles on the road, the energy saving from the vehicle engine system is recognized as one of significant challenges in industry. This paper presents a new method aiming at recovering exhaust energy from a vehicle engine system by hybrid connection of a scroll expander. The recycling energy has been converted to electricity in the designed system. The paper starts from the description of mechanical structure and mathematical modelling of scroll expanders, and the feasibility study of recovering exhaust energy using an existing scroll expander. Then the evaluation on recovering exhaust energy with dimension modified scrolls is presented in the paper. From the study, it has shown that, through a number of suggested modifications, it is possible to recover energy from engine exhaust using dimension modified scroll expanders.
