Abstract :
The developed a cavity backed dual polarized antenna composed of a dual polarized exciting element backed by a rectangular cavity with square cross-section. The exciting element consists of two orthogonal identical bowtie dipoles shorted together using square ring. The square cross section supports two orthogonal degenerate waveguide modes, TE10 and TE01. Depending on which bowtie element is excited, one of these modes is excited. This design allows achieving about an octave bandwidth of operation in a relatively compact size.
