Abstract :
This paper reviews and analyzes interaction between industrial seaport operations and marine-oriented recreational activities in ports. Most major seaports historically have not welcomed any significant marine recreation ´intrusions´ for a variety of reasons. Today it´s clear marine recreation is in the ports to stay and multiply. Coastal zone planning by all levels of government, demographics of our coastal areas and increasing leisure time activities are some of the forcing functions. However, proper planning by port management authorities can make this a significant source of revenue for ports. The Port of Los Angeles is used in this paper as a paradigm for considering these issues.
