Abstract :
A small and broadband antenna is required for cellular phones or mobile devices. A leaky wave antenna (LWA) using a ladder-shaped composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL) has been investigated in order to increase gain of the short-length LWA. To increase leakage power from the short-length LWA, this paper presents a small LWA using broadband CRLH-TL composed of mushroom structures. The effects of the number of cells and the width of the patch are examined in detail. The simulation results are verified using the measured transmission characteristics and radiation patterns.
