Abstract
In the study described in this paper, 18 commercial distribution network information systems were reviewed and their mathematical and heuristic planning methods studied. Several useful and well tested planning methods are applied in commercial software. No product is perfect in this respect, however. Public information, introduced e.g. in this paper about these features may induce power distribution companies to require more efficient planning tools from their software houses and thus develop the economy and performance of the distribution systems. Not only planning methods but also other features of existing commercial AM/FM-GIS systems would be worth comparing
