Abstract :
The goal of any distribution network manager is to operate the network as close as possible to its limits, whilst observing the constraints of fault levels, voltage tolerance, stability and reliability. However, the ever improving quality of data available to managers presents real problems when using previous network analysis techniques, limited either by the mathematical models employed or the effort needed to convert from a simple balanced to a full unbalanced model of the network. This paper describes experiences with one development, the Unbalanced Loadflow (UBLF) module employed in the DINIS suite from ICL, and examines a number of networks requiring such analysis, comparing the results against conventional positive sequence studies where possible
