Abstract :
Summary form only given. A confocal microscope, illuminated with 476.5 nm light, has been used to observe fluorescence around 635 nm from a Pr/sup 3+/ ZBLANP fibre for varying input powers. The resulting images have been used to determine the dopant concentration distribution across the fibre. Nominally, the fibre has a 2.5 /spl mu/m core uniformly doped with 1000 ppm praseodymium ions.
