Knowledge acquisition as part of a practical CACSD approach

Describes an approach to process modelling that aims at making use of the experience with respect to process behaviour that engineers in industry accumulate during their everyday work. Making extensive use of graphical interface facilities, the approach is implemented into an interactive computer program which is designed in such a way that it can be handled by engineers without experience in process modelling. In the overall context of Computer Aided Control System Design (CACSD), the suggested approach, called MODEL, will serve as a preprocessor to the modules `Experimental Process Identification´, `Controller Design´ and `Process Simulation´, which are being developed within the collaborative research project between the University of Glamorgan and the Fachhochschule Hannover.
