            Abstract :
Cooperative strategies for a wireless network where a source is oblivious to the existence of another close by terminal, who can potentially serve as a relay for the source´s transmission, are considered. Robust protocols which improve upon the performance when the relay is present, but do not degrade performance in the relay´s absence with respect to the case where this absence is known to the source a-priori are identified. Finally, analysis is carried out to gain insight on how the performance of these cooperative protocols depends on the system parameters
