Abstract :
Summary form only. We describe a new design for a laser resonator which overcomes power density problems. In the new design the single axial guide and the associated plane mirror are omitted, the multimode guide length is reduced by an amount /spl delta/ from the original value L=W/sup 2//N/spl lambda/, and is terminated by a phase conjugate mirror which returns the field from the N-element array, back to it. R(/spl delta/)=/spl delta/+(/spl pi//spl omega//sub 0//sup 2///spl lambda/)/sup 2///spl delta/. Here, /spl omega//sub 0/=0.3516v, where v is the width of the fundamental mode guides in the array.
