Abstract :
Performance of WiMAX has been widely studied still the MAC protocols´ efficiency in various conditions is not fully understood. We evaluated the earlier studies and realized that none of them provided a detailed analysis, which could be used to assess an operational WiMAX system. This paper presents a novel method to calculate theoretical maximum capacity of both Fixed and Mobile WiMAX. MAC protocol´s efficiency is analyzed in different practical cases and it is shown that with a certain bandwidth, modulation and channel coding the MAC uplink overhead is critical to performance along with the number of active subscriber´s stations and length of MAC PDUs.
