Post-implementation strategy for the adoption of e-portfolio among students in a Malaysian public university

The low uptake by undergraduate students on a recently introduced student electronic portfolio system has sparked a concern among the promoters of the system to re-look at the implementation strategies. A study was conducted to investigate the reason for the low acceptance and subsequently to suggest a post-implementation strategy to overcome this issue. The study was conducted on four groups of users to the system, namely the undergraduate students, academic advisors, Deputy Deans of faculties and selected members of the system development team. Factors and reasons for the low usage of e-portfolio among the students had been identified. Data had been collected through interview, questionnaire and observation. The results showed that user awareness of system importance and its usefulness have a great influence on the level of adoption, as well as insufficient training and support and other individual, system and organizational factors. Proposed strategies aimed to overcome the low usage of e-portfolio system among students are suggested to the university management.
