Abstract :
Some issues and modeling approaches are discussed that may be of assistance in determining the information needed for simulation of manufacturing systems. The proposed approach to the determination of data requirements is based on the mapping of the objectives of simulation studies in manufacturing settings over their process life cycle. This is achieved by establishing the objectives for simulation studies for the planning stages, for approval of the detailed plans, and during the production and continuous improvement stages of a manufacturing program. Using this approach, a recommended level of model detail and data requirements for the different stages are provided
