Abstract
Summary form only given. Tunable cost-effective WDM transmitters have recently became of great interest in WDM networks. Implementing direct modulation is an important step in making these transmitters cost effective. In this paper, we present the results of direct modulation of a tunable GCSR (Grating Coupler Sampled Reflector) laser. The effects of direct modulation on wavelength stability and on the SMSR (side mode suppression ratio) were experimentally investigated and their influence on system performance is evaluated.
