Abstract :
Summary form only given. Measurement and control of the carrier frequency, phase, and repetition rate of ultrashort light pulses is important in a wide variety of applications. Reduction of the pulse train jitter and/or synchronization of the repetition rates is required in experiments involving multiple lasers such as ultrafast communication systems and pump-probe experiments. In the field of frequency metrology, the femtosecond laser has emerged as so indispensable tool for bridging large frequency gaps and may open up the way towards all optical clocks. We demonstrate that a Fabry-Perot interferometer can provide the essential carrier frequency and phase information to stabilize mode-locked pulse trains.
