Abstract
Algorithms for placement of wavelength converters in sparse networks where only a limited number of nodes are equipped with converters of full range conversion capability are presented in this paper. The first method is based on the product of nodal usage and nodal degree. Second method is based on maximizing the number of segments in the network. These methods will be particularly helpful for large and irregular networks. The performance of these algorithms with arbitrary placement of converters in the network has been compared using simulation.
