Abstract
Summary form only given. There is considerable interest in broadband tunable infrared lasers for a variety of applications. A tunable fibre laser which is compact, inexpensive and diode pumped would have clear advantages in this area. We report a first observation of a germanate glass which exhibits strong broadband infrared photoluminescence (PL) upon excitation with blue or green light.
