Abstract :
We consider the problem of speed oscillation damping of automotive engine crankshaft. The source of oscillation is the pulsating engine torque that results from the fuel combustion in cylinders. In automotive engines the flywheel is used for reducing the oscillation of crankshaft speed. The idea of the active flywheel approach is to use to this end the reversible alternator (asynchronous induction machine) instead of standard “passive” flywheel. The aim is to improve the uniformity of engine crankshaft speed at the same time reducing the weight and size of the engine
