Abstract
Based on the Z-transform method, a novel, simple and efficient algorithm for implementing the uniaxial perfectly matched layer (UPML) is proposed to truncate the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) lattices. The main advantage is that, in the PML regions, the proposed algorithm requires minimum auxiliary variables to implement the UPML as compared with the published papers that used the Z-transform method, and consequently the memory requirement and computational time are considerably saved. A numerical test has been carried out to validate the proposed formulations.
